The New York Daily News is an American newspaper founded in 1919, the first U.S. daily printed in tabloid format, and the ninth most widely circulated newspaper in the United States with over 200,000 copies published each day. The newspaper is currently owned by Tronc, the publisher of Tribune Company newspapers and its successors, and is based in the City of New York in Manhattan. The Daily News is best known for its extensive coverage of local and national news in New York City, as well as its award-winning commentary, analysis, and opinion writing, and for its coverage of sports including the Yankees, Mets, Giants, and Jets.
The newspaper has won several Pulitzer Prizes and enjoys a large and dedicated readership. However, in recent years it has been suffering financially due to declining print circulation and the rise of digital media. The Daily News is working to adapt and evolve, but its future remains uncertain.
As of 2022, estimated total weekday and Sunday newspaper circulation across the country was 20.9 million, down 8% and 16% from the previous year. The decline is largely the result of decreasing readership of print editions, but digital subscriptions have also contributed to the downturn for many publishers.
In recent years, the Daily News has exhibited a left-center bias in its editorial positions and use of loaded words (wording that seeks to influence an audience through appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to promote their perspective on various issues. This makes the paper a Left-Bias source according to the Ad Fontes Media media bias ratings methodology. However, the Daily News is a High-Reliable source of information in terms of its factual reporting and analysis and has a strong record of rebutting false claims.
The New York Daily News covers the latest local and national news from around the world. Its team of award-winning writers, columnists and opinion formers brings the latest live coverage of the top stories from New York, as well as political news and gossip and entertainment. No one covers the Yankees, Mets, Giants and Jets like the Daily News!
