The Yale Daily News

A daily newspaper is a publication that comes out each day and reports on current events. Its main purpose is to keep people informed about the world around them and often includes opinions and editorial pieces as well. Some examples of daily newspapers include the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. They are often published in large cities and serve as a source of information for the general public.

The Daily News is a newspaper founded in 1919 and based in New York City, one of the largest metropolitan daily newspapers in the United States. It was the first tabloid newspaper and drew readers with sensational coverage of crime, scandal and violence, lurid photographs, and entertainment features. It once had a circulation of 200,000, but its circulation has declined over the decades.

In addition to the print edition, the Daily News maintains an extensive digital presence through its eNewspaper, which can be accessed by subscriber-only computers and mobile devices. In an effort to boost readership of its eNewspaper, the Daily News announced in May 2017 that it would offer subscriptions for free on a limited basis. The offer was extended in June of the same year.

During its heyday in the 1920s, the Daily News was the nation’s best-selling newspaper. Its reputation for a hard-hitting style helped it gain an edge over rivals, including the more staid New York Post and the more liberal New York Times. The Daily News was also the first newspaper to establish a television station, WPIX, which became known as New York’s picture newspaper; and an AM radio station, WCBS-AM, later purchased by CBS Radio and now broadcasts as WFAN. The News continues to publish several special issues each year in partnership with Yale’s cultural centers and affiliated student groups, such as the Yale-Harvard Game Day issue, Commencement issue and First Year issue.

In January of each year, the Daily News publishes its annual ranking of America’s Great Workplaces in partnership with Plant-A Insights Group. The ranking highlights companies that provide the most opportunities for growth, as well as those who make a difference in their communities. This year, the Daily News expanded its rankings to include a new category that recognizes companies that show leadership in supporting and embracing diversity in their workplaces.
